On Saturday, following the first team game at Nailsea and Backwell, Wells Rugby Club held a mouse racing fund-raiser in aid of Geoff Cook, who many years ago was sadly paralysed in a rugby accident and has since been confined to a wheel chair.

Geoff's love of rugby has not deserted him, however, and he still will often be found down the club on a Saturday afternoon.

Both of his sons, Aaron and Dan, play for Wells and Aaron, of course, will be remembered for his Man of the Match, performance at Twickenham in the RFU Senior Vase Final back in May 2012.

Besides rugby, Geoff's other love is his garden and his family set up a Just Giving page to raise sufficient funds to build a raised pond in his garden.

The original target was £750, but thanks to the efforts of the club this figure was easily passed and nearly £1,000 was raised on the evening.

This together with other donations and events by the family has taken the total to date to £1,322.

Geoff was obviously delighted with the money raised and thanked everybody for their efforts.
