Handel’s Messiah to kick off Christmas celebrations in Wells

By Peter Kingston 14th Oct 2024

The Somerset Choral Society will perform the masterpiece at St Cuthbert's church on the eve of Advent

This year's Christmas countdown in Wells will begin with a special performance of Handel's Messiah, featuring young soloists and the Somerset Choral Society.

The concert will take place on Saturday, 30 November, in St Cuthbert's church.

The choir's musical director, Peter Kingston, described the venue as ideal for the event, saying: "This church with its fine acoustics is the ideal space for the Messiah, large enough for the grand choruses while being nicely intimate for the solo numbers."

Whether you are hearing the piece for the first time or just know the famous Hallelujah Chorus, the performance promises to be a magical start to the Christmas season. Tickets are available for £20 (£12 for those aged 18 and under) through Ticket Source or by calling 07397 806319.
