Wells is on the brink of a retail revolution as Lidl GB Ltd gears up to demolish its current A39 Strawberry Way store to make way for a larger, more modern supermarket.

With planning permission secured in July 2023, the project marks a significant investment into the Wells community, taking over the former Travis Perkins site by the Strawberry Way roundabout.

The demolition is scheduled from April 1 to April 26, 2024, kicking off right after Easter Monday, likely on April 2.

Lidl is set to carry out the work from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and until 1:00 pm on Saturdays, showcasing a commitment to reduce disruption for Wells residents.

A key feature of the redevelopment plan is a new cycleway along the site's north side, linking to the Strawberry Line. This move promises an uninterrupted route from Yatton to Shepton Mallet, enhancing local cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.

The new Lidl is expected to offer an expanded shopping area and better parking, with 46 additional spaces bringing the total to 125, alongside more disabled and motorcycle parking spots.

Aside from boosting the local retail scene, the project is poised to create up to ten new jobs, mainly part-time.
