Specsavers in Wells is offering an Optical Assistant Apprenticeship

If you're staring at the ceiling every Sunday night wondering how it came to this, maybe it's time to mix things up.

There's a surprisingly varied set of job opportunities in Wells this week, ranging from teaching teenagers to measuring strangers' heads – and yes, some of them even pay well.

Let's start with the big one: Secondary Teachers are in demand in the Cheddar area, and Supply Education Alliance wants to hear from anyone who can wrangle a classroom without crying. Whether you're an experienced teacher or fresh out of your PGCE, they've got ad hoc supply roles going, with daily rates between £120 and £200 depending on experience, pay scale and how much budget the school has left. Responsibilities include planning, marking, delivering lessons, and the usual noble task of keeping teenagers from launching chairs across the room. If you've got QTS or ECT status and a DBS, you're halfway there. Enthusiasm optional but helpful.

Meanwhile, Specsavers in Wells is offering an Optical Assistant Apprenticeship, which means you'll get paid to learn how to book eye tests, pre-screen patients, and help customers pick out frames that don't make them look like their dad. It pays £15,740 a year and comes with bonuses, discounts, and full training – plus the very real chance you'll get to say "is it better with one... or two?" on a daily basis. You'll need a GCSE in Maths and the ability to turn up on time. If you've previously worked in the optical sector, sorry – this one's not for you.

Elsewhere, if chatting to people on their doorsteps is your thing (and yes, that is a thing), a Market Research Interviewer role is still up for grabs. You'll get some fresh air, meet the locals, and collect survey data while pretending you're not just trying to reach your steps goal. A car and a decent level of social skills are required.

If you prefer your job with wheels and a bit of freedom, a Delivery Driver position is up for grabs, complete with a £1,000 welcome bonus. If you like your own company, a good podcast, and the smell of a warm van, this one might be a winner.

Those with a taste for power and policy might be interested in a Universal Credit Operations Service Leader role, paying up to £75,000 a year. This one's not for the faint-hearted – you'll need serious leadership skills and the ability to navigate government systems without breaking into a sweat.

In the classroom, a Primary Teacher role is available in Wells, covering a Year 1 and 2 class. Ideal for someone who enjoys glue sticks, glitter, and shaping young minds (while also mastering the fine art of saying "sit down" 94 times a day).

Healthcare is also on the list, with a Care Assistant – Bank position open at a Wells care home. Experience is a bonus, but the main requirements are kindness, patience, and being the sort of person who actually makes a difference to people's lives.

And finally, if you prefer working behind the scenes with numbers and spreadsheets, a Financial Operations Officer role is available. It's part-time, home-based, and ideal for anyone who likes their job quiet, flexible and free from forced small talk.

Whatever your background, ambitions or tolerance for highlighters and Excel, Wells has something this week that might tempt you away from the snooze button. You can find all the latest vacancies at Wells Nub News Jobs – because that dream job probably isn't going to land in your lap.
