Jobs in Wells this week: Engineering, production, kitchen roles and more
By Laura Linham 20th Sep 2025
If you're on the hunt for work in Wells – or just curious what's out there – this week's list covers the full local spread. There's hands-on work in engineering and production, steady roles in security and retail, and a couple of opportunities for those who know their way around a spreadsheet or a sauté pan.
It's the kind of mix that proves you don't have to trek too far for solid employment – especially if you know your torque wrench from your tenderstem broccoli.
First up, Sous chef (Scarlett Pub Company, Wells) is on the menu. This is a full-time kitchen role with around £29k per year, Monday-to-Friday hours, and all the perks of working for a well-run, family-owned business – think proper meals, drink discounts and room to grow. You'll need experience as a CDP or sous, and a steady hand on the pans.
Technical minds may prefer the Controls engineer (water sector) role – paying £50k–£60k, it involves designing, programming and troubleshooting control systems for water and waste treatment. If PLCs, SCADA and commissioning make sense to you (and you've got a driving licence), it's worth a look.
Also in the practical lane, there's an opening for an Assistant fast fit manager at a local tyre and servicing centre. The £42k-ish package (including bonus) comes with the usual buzzwords – targets, stock, equipment – but boils down to keeping things running and customers happy. Garage experience essential.
Meanwhile, Retail security officer is a £16-an-hour post for someone calm, observant and SIA-licensed. Expect the usual mix of deterrence, incident reporting and friendly vigilance – along with holiday pay, training, and life assurance as standard.

Back in boots and hi-vis, Production operatives are needed for long-term contract roles, with pay between £12.77 and £13.27 an hour. You'll be handling machinery, keeping to quality standards, and helping the line hit its targets. Attention to detail and basic literacy required – along with some Microsoft skills and stamina.
Numbers people, look sharp: there's a hybrid role for a Corporate tax senior – hybrid working. ATT-qualified (and ideally CTA on the way), you'll be reviewing returns, mentoring juniors and getting stuck into advisory projects. Flexible working, strong salary and career support make this a solid next step.
At Mars Petcare, the Shift maintenance engineer (multiskilled) – Wells role mirrors others in the region – £43.6k–£46.1k, 32 hours a week, weekend and weekday shifts, and lots of hands-on work with processing and packaging kit. Bonus: private medical cover and an on-site employee shop.
Mars is also hiring a Supply planner – Castle Cary/Wells to handle inbound supply, inventory management, and cross-functional planning. It's a permanent, full-time role with a performance bonus, ideal if you've got two years of experience and a knack for logistics systems.
Last but not least, Shift process operator – James Wellbeloved offers £28k–£31.5k plus bonus and shift allowance. You'll be mixing and grinding ingredients, following recipes, driving forklifts and generally making pet food magic happen. Experience in a manufacturing setting is a must.
That's the Wells work round-up for this week. Practical, technical, and – if you land the right shift pattern – perfectly positioned for a Friday pint. Still browsing? The Wells Nub News jobs board has plenty more where these came from.
