Jobs in Wells: Maps, mops and mains power

Whether you're looking to swap your work boots for whiteboards or just poking around to see who's hiring this week, here's your latest serving of Wells job gossip. No fluff, just roles you can actually do (and maybe even enjoy).
First up, if you've got QTS (or are nearly there) and a thing for maps, fieldwork and teenagers trying to remember what a fjord is, this one's for you: Geography Teacher at a high-achieving independent school in Wells, starting September 2025. It's permanent, comes with a proper mentor and enough kit and field trip budget to make Ordnance Survey blush. Roughly £49k, plus you get to tell people you're shaping global citizens.
Over in the real-world science corner, there's a permanent post for a Graduate Geoenvironmental Consultant, also in Wells. £30k gets you early finish Fridays, professional mentoring, flexible working, and enough soil analysis to last a lifetime. Ideal for someone who doesn't mind wearing a hard hat and deciphering groundwater samples between tea breaks.

Care-wise, things are busy as ever. If you're already trained up and looking for flexible shifts, there's agency work going for a Healthcare Assistant, with weekly pay and around £14.01 an hour. You'll be working in residential and nursing homes across Somerset, helping with everything from meals to mobility. Compassion essential, sainthood optional.
For the night owls with an NVQ Level 3, Senior Night Carer is up for grabs at a Barchester care home in Wells. It's permanent, £14.67 an hour, and you'll be leading shifts, handling meds and care plans, and generally keeping the night shift ship steady. Not glamorous, but seriously vital.
There's also a tidy little role for anyone who finds joy in fresh linen and clean floors—Housekeeping Assistant (Bank) at the same care home, flexible hours on contract at £14.29/hour. Perfect if you want a bit of extra cash without a weekly rota to wrangle.
On the tools? Electricians and Electrical Mates/Improvers are needed for a commercial refurb job in town, running until October. Electricians get £27/hr CIS, mates up to £22/hr, 40+ hours a week. ECS or CSCS card needed, and ideally a tolerance for dusty sites and early starts.
There's also a role for a general Handy Person—contract work at £20/hour on a Wells refurb. No CSCS card needed, just two decent references and a sturdy pair of boots. Expect to lug things, use power tools, and be a general site hero.
If your talents lean more towards schmoozing and spreadsheets, a Sales Executive is needed at a sustainability-focused manufacturer in Wells. It's £28k base with OTE pushing £42k, and involves following projects through from pricing to final order. Fast-paced, customer-facing, and very much office-based—with the promise of actual career progression if you're keen.
And that's your lot this week. Whether you're career-climbing, skill-swapping or just job-window-shopping, you'll find more live local listings on the Wells Nub News jobs board.
