It’s happening! Wells Skatepark gets green light – now the race is on to raise the cash

Wells is one step closer to rolling into the future – after plans for a brand-new skatepark were officially approved.
It's the moment campaigners have been waiting for: planning permission has been granted for a modern, inclusive wheeled sports facility in the city – and now the focus turns to raising the money needed to build it.
"This is a huge step forward," said Bev Smith, trustee of the project. "We're so grateful to everyone who has supported us – from turning up to meetings and sharing kind words, to donating time, money and energy. The support has been incredible."
The new skatepark promises to be more than just ramps and rails. It's being designed as a safe, positive and purpose-built space where people of all ages can skate, scooter and connect. It's hoped the site will support both physical and mental health, and offer a much-needed alternative space for young people in Wells.
So far, the project has pulled in nearly £90,000, including £14,000 from crowdfunding, alongside sponsorship, donations and community fundraising. But there's still a long way to go.
"This is a real opportunity to build something brilliant," Bev said. "A place where people of all ages can learn, play, build confidence and make friends – maybe even launch the next Olympic skateboarder!"
Now, the group behind the project is urging locals, businesses and anyone with a link to Wells to get involved.
"If you've got kids, grandkids, mates who ride – or you ride yourself – now's the time to get behind it," Bev added. "We need all the help we can get."
