Wells' medieval quarter will be bathed in the magical light of dozens of lanterns when the Wells Lantern Parade returns this year.

Wells Lantern Parade takes place on Saturday, October 22, starting at 6.30pm underneath Luke Jerram's Gaia installation in Wells Cathedral and take in the Cathedral Green, Penniless Porch, Bishop's Eye, the Bishop's Palace, ending in Market Place. The parade will be led by the Jamma de Samba band from Bath,

The theme of this year's parade is The Natural World, and anyone who would like to make a willow and paper lantern and join in the parade is welcome, especially families.

Anyone who would like to make a paper lantern to join in, can come along to one of the lantern making workshops which are running at the Portway Annexe on Saturdays and St Thomas Church Hall on Sundays from September 24 to October 16 (not on October 2). If you would like to take part please sign up for a lantern workshop https://bit.ly/wellslanternworkshops. Lantern making kits will cost £5 and you will need to bring a string of battery-operated lights around 2m long.

The Light Up Wells Lantern Procession and workshops are delivered by Project Factory CIC and kindly supported by Wells Chamber of Commerce, Wells City Council and The Portway Annexe, St Thomas Church, Wells Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace

Project Factory CIC would be particularly happy to hear from businesses who might be able to sponsor or part-sponsor the event.

Volunteers are also needed to help at the workshops, and to help marshal at the event itself.

Anyone who can help, either with sponsorship or volunteering, should email [email protected].
