Having a laugh at Wells Festival of Literature 2019

Some brilliant speakers are coming to the Wells Festival of Literature this month and we all look forward to the fascinating insights these eminent authorities will share.

Politics, history, science, art, music, philosophy - all will be covered expertly but the prospect of having a giggle also appeals.

At 8pm on Friday October 18, Henry Normal will be packing plenty of his renowned talent for comedy into a heart-warming show about life with his autistic son.

Best known for co-writing a string of comedy shows, including Mrs Merton and The Royle Family, Henry deploys this comic genius memorably as he explains bringing up an autistic child.

Another opportunity to have a laugh will be when the notoriously scatty Keggie Carew discusses the extraordinary misadventures that have befallen her.

This amusing chat – with the equally accident-prone Mark McCrum – is at 2pm on Monday October 21 – and you can have lunch first too if you want.

Tracey Thorn was originally known as one half of the best-selling duo Everything but the Girl. But she's also a writer, and her memories of life as A Teenager in Suburbia are hilarious.

Pure entertainment, especially for everyone who was young during the 1970s.

The grand finale of the festival, featuring iconic poet Roger McGough and Little Machine, also promises to be a riot but tickets have all gone. Definitely worth booking now before everything else sells out.
