This year's Moat Boat Race has been hailed as a success.

Intrepid teams took to the waters of the Bishop's Palace Moat on their homemade crafts on Monday (August 29) to battle it out in a series of races, to the delight of crowds of onlookers.

The event was organised by the City of Wells Lions Club with permission from the Bishop of Bath and Wells.

Lions President Alan Sanderson said " The City of Wells Lions Club were delighted to, with the help of community volunteers, organise and deliver the 2022 Wells Moat Race. All the work involved in resurrecting the perennial event was proved worthwhile as competitors, volunteers and the people of Wells and the surrounding area enjoyed an inclusive, fun day out. Members of the Lions Club would like to thank all the people and organisations who made contributions to such a successful Moat Race and we look forward to delivering the event again in 2023."
