A former bank in Wells, previously occupied by HSBC until its closure in June 2023, is poised for a transformation.

Plans have been lodged with Somerset Council to refurbish the interior of the building at 3 Market Place, to help market it to new tenants.

Following HSBC's departure and lease surrender last year, the landlord now seeks permission to remove internal features such as partitions, a cash deck, and a hoist from the listed building.

These proposed changes, referred to as 'minor alterations' in the planning documents, would only affect the ground floor.

The first and second floors, which include a staff room, tea room, female and male WCs, a cleaners' closet, and storage areas, will remain untouched.

For further information on the proposed changes, residents can view the planning application under reference number 2024/0730/LBC on the Somerset Council's online planning portal.
