A trio of fundraising events around Wells over the festive period helped raises hundreds of pounds for the mental health charity Heads Up.

The charity, which is based in South Horrington, has revealed the amounts raised, and would like to thank the organisations involved for their help.

The Wells Walking Group raised £47 for the Heads Up Memories Workshops at their Christmas lunch.

The group meets at Morrisons in Wells every Tuesday at 11am, and for more information, contact Martyn Errington at [email protected].

TePe Dental Hygiene in Wells donated £500 to the charity, raised in lieu of sending out Christmas cards.

Another group to raise money was Claire Widdall Tai Chi, which is a class that meets every Thursday at 7.30pm at Mendip Court, South Horrington.

The group practices Tai Chi Shibashi, and Qigong meditation. Regular Tai Chi practise helps to maintain physical and emotional balance, as well as providing many other health benefits, so fits in nicely with the core aims of Heads Up.

On December 19, the group raised £100 in aid of Heads Up. For class information, contact [email protected].

There are a couple of events coming up as well, which should help boost the charity's funds.

Heads Up are holding a craft stall at the Snowdrop Festival at the Bishop's Palace, Wells, on Saturday and Sunday February 22 and 23.

All items sold are made by clients and volunteers at Heads Up, and profits will directly benefit the clients and carers who attend Heads Up.

Also, the Community Festival of Singing is running some singing workshops at St Thomas' Church, Wells, on Saturday February 29 at 2pm.

There is a £10 participation fee for the workshops, and no singing experience is needed to join in.

Participants are then invited to perform at an informal concert at the church that evening at 7pm (bar opens from 6.30pm). The concert is free, and there will be a retiring collection for Heads Up at the end.
