Nothing was going to stop Chris Hall achieving his target of cycling the 1,095 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats in 15 days for The Lawrence Centre charity in Wells.

He completed the long ride on schedule, even though on route the bike's back wheel fell off, the chain snapped and the rear tyre punctured, among other difficulties.

"Having cycled from one end of the country to the other, I can with confidence state that it is indeed a green and pleasant land," said Chris. "I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to see it unfold day by day. If I were to give advice to anyone who would like to do something similar, I'd simply say take more time.

"I would like to thank everyone who have so generously supported The Lawrence Centre. All my friends, colleagues and acquaintances for their daily messages of support and encouragement. Also, I particularly want to thank Dan Holland and Gary Sheridan for joining me for part of the way, it was great to have their company."

He had discovered the Lawrence Centre was having trouble raising enough money to keep going.

"They provide support to older people with debilitating diseases and memory issues such as Alzheimer's, dementia and Parkinson's," said Chris.

His mum Kathleen suffered from dementia so helping the Lawrence Centre is personal for Chris as he knows how difficult it was for all concerned.

His wife Nicki, who set up Wells Community Network's free trishaw service, shadowed Chris in a campervan so they could meet up for lunch and supper.
