A new pop-up bar has opened in Wells.

Bacchus Aperitivo in the courtyard at The Swan Hotel popped up last summer, and proved so popular that it's back for a second season.

"Bacchus Aperitivo built quite a following last year," said Jonathan Marshall, created the concept and the vision for the al fresco bar. "and we're hoping it will be even more popular this year.

"Because it is all al fresco it has that sort of Mediterranean feel. But of course the British weather isn't so reliable, so we do have some big umbrellas that can help shelter from the rain – or we can move inside to the garden room if the weather is really bad!"

The food menu has been designed for people to order several small plates to share, with dishes including sriracha calamari, flatbread pizzas and 'street corn nachos' with feta, mozzarella, sweetcorn, spring onion and Mexican mayo.

Last year the wine-based cocktails proved a big hit, and they are back again (with a few extra options) as well as a new cocktail menu of classic concoctions such as Cosmopolitan and Espresso Martini.

"The original idea was more of a wine garden sort of theme," said Jonathan. "We introduced the 'wine-tails' and we found they were even more popular than the wine. So this year we are focusing more on the mixed drinks. I think we are one of the only places in Wells offering this sort of thing – certainly in this sort of lovely outside space."

Bacchus Aperitivo is open from 4pm-9pm Wednesday and Thursday, and 4pm-11pm at weekends.
