A section of Wells High Street is poised for closure to facilitate crucial gas mains maintenanc next week.

The works, expected to last for nearly two weeks, will commence on Monday (15 April) and should be complete by Friday, 26 April.

This closure will affect a 38-metre stretch of the high street, extending from the junction with Priest Row to the junction with Queen Street, and will be in place 24 hours a day.

To accommodate local traffic and minimise inconvenience, a diversion route has been established.

Moreover, to ensure pedestrian access and safety for shoppers and local residents, a dedicated pedestrian walkway will be implemented throughout the period of the works.

A representative from Somerset Council said: "We do our utmost to minimise disruption where possible."
