Cedars Hall in Wells is pleased to announce the return of the Strawberry Concerts in July, which have previously sold out.

There will be three concerts from 10th-12th July incorporating classical, folk and big band jazz music.

Free strawberries and cream will be served during an extra-long interval in which picnics can be enjoyed on Cedars Lawn.

The Bristol Ensemble will open the series with Mozart on a Summer's Evening on Wednesday 10th July at 7.00pm.

Bristol's only professional orchestra was founded in 1994 by its artistic director and lead violinist Roger Huckle.

Its film and TV engagements include music for the BBC Bristol Natural History Unit and David Attenborough series Life in Cold Blood.

The musicians have also recorded soundtracks for computer games, films and won a BAFTA and an Ivor Novello award.

The second band performing will be folk trio Gigspanner on Thursday 11th July, formed by legendary fiddle player Peter Knight (ex-Steeleye Span).

Peter established the trio in 2013 and has developed a reputation for the most innovative acts on the folk/roots scene.

Within Gigspanner, Peter's musicianship is further enhanced by the flawless playing of Roger Flack on guitar and Sacha Trochet on hand drums and percussion. Expect a dazzling performance and arresting on-stage chemistry.

Finally, the internationally acclaimed jazz singer, pianist and songwriter, Joe Stilgoe, will be performing, alongside Wells Cathedral School's Swing Machine Jazz Orchestra, for the final Strawberry Concert on Friday 12th July.

Joe has toured all around the world having appeared in jazz clubs from New York to Berlin to Kuala Lumpur including sell-out runs at legendary London club Ronnie Scott's.

Described by The Sunday Times as "a very British Harry Connick Jr", he also works extensively on radio, having hosted BBC Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night, appeared on the Now Show and The Horne Section for Radio 4, and been a contributor and special guest with Alan Carr, Michael Parkinson and Chris Evans.

Free strawberries and cream will be given out at each concert and there will be an interval of 45 minutes, so plenty of time to enjoy a picnic on Cedars Lawn.

The bar will be open during the evening. All concerts start at 7.00pm. For more details about these concerts and to book tickets online, visit cedarshall.events or contact the box office on 01749 834483, 9.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday.
