Wells SOUP! moves to the Cathedral for the first time with four inspiring causes pitching for support.

Wells SOUP! is set for a special event tomorrow (Saturday, January 11) as it takes place in Wells Cathedral for the first time – fulfilling a personal request from the Bishop of Bath and Wells.

Bishop Michael became a fan of the community fundraiser after attending in January 2023 and was so impressed he asked if the event could one day be held in the Cathedral itself.

Organiser Ross Young, of Wells Independents, said: "We're delighted to announce that the Bishop's wish is finally coming true, and he will be in attendance as SOUP! takes place in the Cathedral."

Four local causes will pitch for support at the event:

  • Music for Wellbeing (formerly Singing for the Brain), which provides a warm, welcoming space for people with dementia and young adults with learning disabilities.
  • Owl Enlightenment, which brings owls into people's homes to offer companionship and emotional support, much like therapy dogs.
  • Dance 4 Parkinson's, a group run by people living with Parkinson's and other neurological conditions, which uses dance to stay active, have fun, and offer mutual support.
  • Wells Youth Club, which encourages young people to engage positively in their community through safe, inclusive spaces.

These presentations will bring the total number of good causes supported by Wells SOUP! to 98 since the initiative began.

This event is sponsored by Wells Chamber of Commerce. Chair Louis Agabani said: "We strive to support the local community, and through SOUP! we can extend our reach even further."

Attendees can expect a choice of two soups provided by Fresh & Good, bread rolls donated by Burns the Bread, and flowers from Karen Young. Drinks will be available at the donation bar, courtesy of Mr Agabani.

Ross added: "Please come along to the Cathedral tomorrow to support these four fantastic causes. Tickets are £5 on the door, with seating limited to 120 on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 12.40pm for a 1pm start."
