The Wells Theatre Festival is on the hunt for a budding costume designer to assist with their upcoming production of The Taming of the Shrew, set to be performed at the Bishop's Barn from June 19 to 22.

Auditions for the production will take place on Sunday, February 16, with festival organisers encouraging new performers to join their acclaimed community theatre company, following last year's sell-out performance of Macbeth.

The festival is seeking an aspiring designer to work alongside renowned costume professional Andrew Hunt, whose impressive credits include Shakespeare in Love, Gosford Park, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, the Harry Potter series, and The Alienist.

Andrew began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company before moving into film, and his designs for Macbeth last year were instrumental in creating the atmospheric production in the historic Bishop's Barn. However, with a busy schedule that includes working on the next Spider-Man movie, the festival needs a talented assistant to help bring his vision for The Taming of the Shrew to life.

Festival Artistic Director Ros Johnson said: "We are incredibly lucky to have Andrew's talents for The Taming of the Shrew. His designs for Macbeth last year were stunning, but he's a busy man and generously gives his time for free. We're now looking for someone with a creative eye or an interest in fashion design to step in and realise Andrew's vision while he is away. He will still be available for consultation, but the costume assistant will have the freedom to bring his designs to life."

Anyone interested in auditioning or applying for the costume designer assistant role can contact Ros Johnson at [email protected].

The Wells Theatre Festival aims to bring world-class theatre to rural Somerset while supporting the local community with free performances for schools and the public. Patrons of the festival include Dame Judi Dench and theatre director Sir Richard Eyre.
