A girl from Wells will be marking her 10th birthday in a rather unusual way.

While many children will ask their parents for presents and parties for their birthdays, Sammy Kendellen wants to have her hair cut to raise money for The Little Princess Trust when she turns 10 next month.

Sammy's mum, Tracy Davies, said, "Sammy is a very, very loving girl and always wanting to help those in need. This was a sudden request on her 8th birthday that this is what she wanted to do on her 10th birthday. She became even more adamant through lockdown that this was something she wanted to do – we don't have a lot, but Sammy is aware that other people have less. I am so, so proud of her I can't put it into words."

It has been several years since Sammy has had more than a trim on her hair, so it will be a big change, but she's excited to have a new hairstyle. "Sammy's best friend has short hair," said Tracy. "So she's looking forward to it."

The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Tracy and Sammy have set up a JustGiving page and are hoping to raise £500 for the charity. Anyone who would like to donate can do so here.
