Plans submitted to demolish schoolwear shop in Wells and build five homes on site

A planning application has been submitted to Mendip District Council for the demolition of the Identity Kits schoolwear and the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen shops in Wells, and five homes to be built on the site.

The application for the demolition of the existing commercial buildings and erection of five dwellings at 23 Broad Street, Wells, has been made by Mrs F Shenton.

The application says that the increasing cost of the ongoing maintenance of the site is making it unviable going forward, and the applicant wants to build two two-bedroom townhouses, one one-bedroom townhouse, and two one-bedroom flats on the site instead.

Planning applications in the Wells area that have been submitted to Mendip District Council this week include:

Erection of single storey rear extension at 61 Bath Road, Wells, has been applied for by Mr Stephen Pledger.

Application to vary condition 2 (drawings) of planning approval 2018/2972/FUL (Demolition of existing house and garage building, erection of new dwelling, garage and improvements to accesses, Amended Drawings) at Highgate House, Thrupe Lane, Croscombe, has been made by Mr and Mrs A Lewis.

Application for a certificate of lawful existing development for a dwellinghouse (Use Class C3) at Two Oaks, Underhill Lane, Ston Easton, has been made by Mr and Mrs Leggett.

Two storey extension to the north west of dwelling, erection of a detached double garage and relocation of vehicular access at Orchard Barn, Upper Benter to Stockhill, Chilcompton, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Miles and Tina Hadrill.

Single storey lean to extension at 42 Hawkers Lane, Wells, has been applied for by Mr and Mrs Hathaway.

Conversion of barn to residential dwellinghouse at The Hay Barn, Home Farm, Nordrach Lane, Priddy, is wanted by Ms Corin Campbell Hill.

Erection of a single storey extension to side and rear at 29 Manor Court, Easton, has been applied for by Angela Davey.

Erection of an agricultural barn on land at Thrupe Lane, Masbury, is wanted by Mr and Mrs N Moss.

Application for approval of details reserved by condition 4 (Boundary and Surface Treatments) on planning consent 2018/2773/FUL at the former Nutricia site, Glastonbury Road, Wells, has been made by Mr Williams.

Proposed alterations to fenestration including installation of windows and rooflights at 2 St Cuthbert Street, Wells, have been applied for by Mr Richard Harlow.

Planning applications in the Wells area that have been decided by Mendip District Council this week include:

Decorations to rear elevations no. 9-13, new timber door to rear elevation to no. 11, new timber window to third floor front elevation of no. 13, internal remedial works (Retrospective) at 9-13 High Street, Wells, by Equorium Property Ltd have been approved.

Conversion of Old Piggery Barn to a dwellinghouse, (inc. extension), and associated works at The Old Piggery Barn, Long Street, Dinder, by The Dinder Estate has been approved.

A tourism development of five self contained glamping pods (Change of Use of Land From Agricultural to Camping) at Church Of The Holy Trinity, Godney Road, Godney, by Mr and Mrs Michael and Jenny Churches has been approved.

Erection of a garden studio building for storage and home therapy treatments at 7 Hervey Road, Wells, by Miss V Withey has been approved.

Proposed installation of new gas supply to include pipe and meters, with a new flue at 5 Harpers Almshouses, 28 Chamberlain Street, Wells, by Mrs Andrea Kent has been approved.

Application to demolish barns B and C and extend barn A at Higher Eastwater Farm, East Water Lane, Priddy, by Mr Russell Sage has been withdrawn.

Rear extension, alterations and refurbishment of existing dwelling at Gruffy Cottage, The Batch, Priddy, by Mr and Mrs M Phippen has been approved.

Variation of condition 1 (plans list) of permission 2018/2986/REM (Application for approval of reserved matters following outline approval 2017/1399/OTA for the erection of a single storey dwelling and associated access, matters of access/appearance/landscaping/layout/scale to be determined) at Green Gables, Glencot Road, Wookey Hole, by Mr Ashbee has been approved.

Variation of condition 25 (hours of use) of permission 120690/000 (Erection of crematorium and creation of parking areas, access, landscaping including creation of mounds and change of use of surrounding land and ancillary uses associated with the crematorium) at Mendip Crematorium, Old Wells Road, Croscombe, has been approved.

Proposed extension to rear, alterations to roof to raise ridge level and erection of a double garage at 27 Wells Road, Wookey Hole, by Mr S Thatcher has been approved.

Erection of fence and gated access at Tandridge, Broadway, Chilcompton, by Mr Michael Morgan has been approved.

Erection of a dwelling at 72 Portway, Wells, by Mr Neil Harris has been withdrawn.

Non-material amendment to permission 2019/0957/FUL (Conversion of barn to a dwelling including a new single storey extension) at Bethel Barn, Bristol Road, Hillgrove, Wells, by Mr and Mrs Dawson has been approved.
