FILM Song of Names

Cedars Hall, Wells

UNTIL Thursday 4th November

Introduced by novelist and music journalist Norman Lebrecht.

In 1951 David Eli Rapoport, a 21-year old concert violinist, is about to make his London debut. Born in Poland as David Eli Dovidl, the young Rapoport had fled the Holocaust into the care of the London Simmonds family who respected his Judaism, offered him friendship and nurtured his talent.

They prepared him for a life as a virtuoso. What could possibly cause him to skip his debut?

Norman Lebrecht introduces his own book, the inspiration for this award-winning film, and talks to Luke Doyle, a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School, who appeared as the young Polish violinist.

This discussion will be followed by a special screening of the Song of Names.
