Celebrating the painted medieval reredoses of St Cuthbert's Church

St Cuthbert's Church

UNTIL Saturday 19th March

A day of talks and demonstrations celebrating the art, the building and the history of the unique painted medieval reredoses.

The speakers include Jerry Sampson who will talk about the Making and Breaking of the Jesse Reredos, looking at its iconography and history. Lynne and Emma from Humphries and Jones, will explain what they discovered during the investigations in 2016; and a stone mason will talk about and demonstrate the art of stone carving. The day will end with a short concert by the Swan Singers. The music will be contemporary to or associated with the reredoses, and the final piece will be accompanied by a light and colour show giving an idea of the original beauty of the Jesse Reredos.
