On Monday 11th May an exceptional student choir from Missouri, USA will be giving a free concert at St Cuthbert's Church, Wells, with donations to be taken in aid of the Wells Skate Park Project. Thirty talented singers will perform a 1hr concert of American spiritual, gospel and traditional music, finishing with a rousing Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah. Come and support these young singers on their journey through the UK, and at the same time, our future young skaters of Wells! Sure to be a musical treat for all.
The Missouri Baptist University Chorale is a community choral ensemble comprised of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, MO, USA. Just as St. Louis played a pivotal role in American history for expansion and new frontiers, the MBU Choral Department seeks to provide opportunities for our musicians to expand their musical understanding to a global perspective while bringing messages of good news and good cheer to all who will hear. In our program, audiences will enjoy a variety of literature reflective of Missouri composers and influences, our geographical confluence of two major rivers, and a spiritual celebration of American music.
The MBU Chorale has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Ireland, and beyond, and are thrilled to return to Great Britain. Our most recent masterwork concerts featured Handel's "Messiah" – our quadrennial tradition which showcases student soloists and conductors. Expanding our study of this iconic masterpiece to admiring Handel's adopted homeland provides a rich experience for our musicians that sends us to new frontiers while also better understanding the confluence of British and American history and culture.
