Friday 27 March
Experience critically acclaimed, five star awarded ensemble Armonico Consort live, as they bring J.S. Bach's powerful and dramatic St Matthew Passion to life at Wells Cathedral this March. Widely regarded as the greatest of all Passion settings, it stands among the finest choral works ever composed.
The performance is directed by Christopher Monks, a former Wells Cathedral scholar and now a professional conductor. The role of The Evangelist is sung by Nathan Vale, also a former Wells Cathedral scholar and now an internationally renowned tenor soloist. Both sang as scholars at Wells Cathedral under the late Toby Crossland. They are delighted to return to Wells Cathedral with some of the world's finest Baroque players and soloists, performing Bach's masterpiece alongside the choristers who helped shape their musical journeys.
