Concert: Recorders Incorporated
Wookey Hole Theatre

OLD WINE IN NEW BOTTLES!
A much loved organ prelude, music written for voices and the most famous baroque work for strings all take on a new life played by recorders large and small. Mischievous Lincoln imps play havoc with folk songs, the spirit of Bach is reimagined for the 21st century, and if you think symphonies are just for symphony orchestras, think again!
If you've never heard a recorder orchestra before, you are in for a treat.
Recorders Incorporated was founded in 2007 and draws talented recorder players from all over the UK and often Europe. Its members meet once a year somewhere in the UK to perform a concert programme which they rehearse intensively for 3 days. The group came to Wells in 2020 when they played to a packed audience in St Cuthbert's Church and they are delighted to be performing at Wookey Hole in their 20th anniversary year. Musical Director Philip Thorby is well known as one of the country's leading performers and teachers in the field of Renaissance and Baroque music, and founder and Director of the Renaissance ensemble Musica Antiqua of London. He is a former Professor of Recorder and Senior Fellow in Early Music at Trinity College of Music and teaches widely in England and abroad.
The concert will be performed by 27 musicians playing a multitude of recorders, the smallest being just 6 inches, to some over 7 feet tall, in a programme encompassing a wide soundscape of music from the renaissance right up to the 21st century.
