UNTIL Sunday 4th February
Continuing the series of great music films organised by Wells Cathedral School's Friends of Music, Tous les Matins du Monde explores the life of Marin Marais, a fêted musician of the Royal Court in 17th century France. Played both by Gérard Depardieu and his son Guillaume, Marais reflects on a youth spent in the musical and romantic wilds with Sainte-Colombe, another reclusive composer, viol maestro and influential musical innovator. After Sainte-Colombe's wife dies, he dramatically retreats from the world, rarely playing publicly, restricting himself and his two daughters to an austere life devoted to music.
Director Alain Corneau collaborated with viol virtuoso and early music expert, Jordi Savall, to bring Marais' music to life, portraying the power of emotion and art to transcend our earthbound existence.
Admission free but please book.
There will be a collection in aid of Friends of Music of Wells Cathedral School.
