8 Oct 2025 - 1 Nov 2025
Thursday 9 October

The Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) exhibition is returning to Wells Cathedral from 8 October to 1 November, providing visitors with an opportunity to see a quality and calibre of art more often seen in metropolitan galleries, right here in Somerset.
Now in its fourteenth year, WAC's internationally recognised open competition continues to draw thousands of entries from across the globe. This year, 93 shortlisted pieces spanning disciplines from drawing to textiles will be showcased in a striking white wall gallery that lines three sides of the cathedral cloisters.
Running alongside The Gallery is The Installations, an integral part of the exhibition and a highlight of a visit to WAC. This year, 22 site-specific installations are studded throughout the Cathedral and its grounds, selected for their responses to the architectural and spiritual aspects of this unique venue. This year, the Dean of Wells Cathedral, Toby Wright, included an additional theme to be considered, Flowing Light.
There are also works of art from four different community groups: ARK at Egwood, Thursday Threads from Peasdown St Jone and the Balsam Centre in Wincanton. The fourth community project, in collaboration with the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani, and the Wells Skatepark Project, features decorated skate decks donated by artists. Curated by renowned skate photographer Skin Phillips, selected decks will be on display during the exhibition and sold via an accompanying online auction to raise funds for a new city skatepark.
Entry to WAC is included with admission to the Cathedral.
