Shepton came out with renewed confidence in the second half, and within the first five minutes, they created two glorious chances to extend their lead. Josh Jenkins broke through Street's defence but could only fire straight at Pope, who pulled off a crucial save.

Moments later, the roles were reversed as Bateson became the provider, setting up Jenkins with a golden opportunity, but the striker could only watch as his shot flew wide of the goal with Pope beaten.

Street, struggling to create meaningful opportunities, finally threatened Shepton's goal around the hour mark when Toby Stephens found himself in space, but Owen Crawford produced an excellent save to deny him.

The game ebbed and flowed in the latter stages, with Street throwing men forward in search of an equaliser, but Shepton's defence remained resolute. Stephens came closest for Street, heading over the bar as the match entered stoppage time.

Shepton had a chance to seal the win late on when Cam Allen found himself in a good position, but he failed to find the target. Despite that, Shepton's defence, led by the impressive Bateson, Ethan Witchell, Harry Rutty, and Joel Sisson, saw out the remaining minutes to secure a valuable three points.

Shepton's Man of the Match, Bateson, was instrumental in both attack and defence, with his goal proving to be the decisive moment in a tight encounter. The victory keeps Shepton's momentum going as they now look ahead to their next fixture.

Shepton Mallet will host Ilfracombe at the Playing Field, West Shepton, on Saturday 28th September at 3:00 pm, followed by a home game against Brixham on 5th October.

Upcoming fixtures: Shepton vs Ilfracombe (28th Sept), Shepton vs Brixham (5th Oct)
