Wells WI had another online meeting this month, with 24 members attending via Zoom.

We learned that annual subscriptions, normally payable in January, won't be due until April, in acknowledgement of recent disruption that has prevented normal meetings.

Plans to build four homes behind the Mermaid Inn, Wells, have been given the green light by Mendip District Council.

The planning application for the building of four two-bedroom dwellings at 1-2 The Mermaid Inn, Tucker Street, Wells, was made by Sam James.

Saturday (July 4) saw relaxation in the lockdown and allowed pubs, bars and restaurants, among other businesses, to open up around the country.

Wells Golf Club, which opened for golf on May 13, was no different. The club has been busy with more than 120 new members and increases visitor footfall when compared to previous years.

The Strawberry Line East group has submitted a planning application to extend the shared-use path from Wells to Dulcote onwards to Charlie Bigham's food production facility at Dulcote Quarry.

This all-weather, sealed surface path will be 2.5 metres wide, follow a wheelchair-friendly gradient throughout, and be open to walkers, cyclists and equestrians.

This weekend has seen an important landmark hit by Wells Nub News, as our page on Facebook now has more than 1,000 likes.

Since the hyperlocal news website for Wells launched last year, we have seen the number of people engaging with us, adding their companies to our Local List section and telling us their stories, growing fast.

The Old Bristol Road is scheduled to be closed for two weeks from the junction with Ash Lane in Wells to the Hunter's Lodge.

The road closure is due to start on Monday (July 6) and should be in place from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday until July 17.
