The Glastonbury Male Voice Choir

The renowned Glastonbury Male Voice Choir is holding a recruitment evening in Wells this month, hoping to boost its ranks ahead of two high profile concerts next year.

The Glastonbury choir, well known to Wells, will be rehearsing in the Crown Hotel on Tuesday March 24 from 7pm.

£250,000 has been awarded to Mendip District Council to tackle rough sleeping (Photo: O'Dea)

Mendip District Council has received more than £250,000 funding to help rough sleepers across the area, and two Wells-based organisations are going to help deliver the services.

The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government awarded the grant following a bid by the council, and was awarded thanks to the council's track record in tackling the issue.

In his first visit to troops deployed overseas, newly-appointed Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey visited troops stationed on the Sovereign Base Area (SBA) in Cyprus.

On a three-day visit, Mr Heappey - who is MP for the Wells Constituency - met with members of the UK Armed Forces deployed on a range of different missions as well as Cypriot Defence Minister Savvas Angelides.
