Wells Tennis Club enjoyed a weekend of triumphs both on and off the court, with junior talent shining in a regional LTA tournament and members gathering for a festive celebration that crowned the club's Players' Player of the Year.

Junior Stars Shine in LTA U14 Tournament

Despite a damp start, Sunday's LTA U14 tournament drew a strong field of boys and girls from across the South West. Spirits remained high, and the quality of tennis was outstanding throughout the afternoon.

Five Wells juniors proudly represented the club, with standout performances across the board:

  • Emilia claimed victory in the girls' event with skill and determination.
  • Harry battled brilliantly to reach the semi-finals of the boys' draw.
  • Charlie showed resilience and flair, winning the boys' consolation final.

Tournament referee Anna praised the club's facilities, noting the artificial clay courts were crucial in keeping play safe and enjoyable despite the rain. "If they had been hard courts, I would probably have had to cancel," she said.

Festive Celebration and Players' Player Award

The weekend's achievements started on Friday night, when 60 members gathered at The White Hart for the club's Christmas social. Organised by social secretary Juliet, the evening featured a festive feast, lively conversation, and even a signature cocktail—the "Ho Ho McEnroe."

Club Championship trophies were presented by Chairman Matt, with photographs captured by Lynda Friel to mark the occasion.

For the first time in several years, members also voted for their Players' Player of the Year. The 2025 honour went to Arabella Browne, recognised for her welcoming approach to new players, enthusiasm for social fixtures, and regular participation in both mixed and ladies' events. Arabella's dedication and positivity have made her a much-loved presence across the club.
