It might feel as though the summer tennis season has come and gone, but not for the dedicated players at Wells Tennis Club. Last week the club held the finals of its annual championships, with committed competitors battling through blustery winds and rain showers for the chance to lift a trophy.

Congratulations go to this year's champions:

  • Women's Singles – Becky Browning
  • Men's Singles – Tom Devesa
  • Women's Doubles – Corali & Izzy
  • Men's Doubles – Kevin & Matt
  • Mixed Doubles – Julia & Kevin

Sadly, the presentations and the Over-55s match couldn't take place due to the weather, but they will be arranged very soon.

One of the day's standout players was Izzy, a new member of the club and winner of the Women's Doubles as well as runner-up in the Women's Singles. She said:

"It was a great day of tennis at my first ever club champs! I thoroughly enjoyed both my matches and still managed to squeeze in some spectating of the thrilling mixed doubles final. Thanks to all who organised and supported on the day – they made it extra special despite the early start and questionable weather."

Looking ahead, Wells Tennis Club is gearing up for the winter season, with three teams entered into the North Somerset Mixed Winter League. Matches begin in just three weeks' time. For those not playing competitively, there are still plenty of opportunities to join in socially.
