Harry Foster scored a spectacular goal for Wells City, before being sent off towards the end of the game, as the match against Portishead Town ended 1-1.

Portishead also had a player sent off and a draw is the fairest result although on chances created Wells will rue not taking all three points.

Wells' first chance came on four minutes when a Tom Hill throughball split the Portishead defence to free Foster but his snap shot produced a good save by keeper.

On 10 minutes Hill, with a delicate clip in behind the back four, released Craig Herrod who delivered a low cross across the box but Foster slashed wide when he should have hit the target.

A minute later it was Dale Hunt this time with a throughball to Herrod who pulled the ball back to Steve Sokol on the edge of the box but he could not keep his shot down and the ball comfortably cleared the bar.

After 15 minutes good link up play between Foster and Harvey Hadrill saw Hunt shoot over from 15 yards.

On 18 minutes, Hill with an in-swinging corner nearly caught the Portishead keeper out but he just managed to claw the ball out of the top corner.

Straight afterwards, a Sokol throughball found Foster who again shot wide when one on one.

After 22 minutes Herrod, with a cross from left, which picked out Hadrill but his first touch was heavy and allowed the Portishead keeper to come out and thwart his shot.

On 26 minutes a back pass from Ben Amghar put pressure on Harley Wilkinson and his clearance caught the wind and ended up falling to the Portishead Number 9 but his effort was blocked by Ben Robertson and hooked clear.

The Portishead number 2 curled just wide following a corner not cleared on the half-hour mark.

After 32 minutes an effort from 20 yards from the Portishead Number 9 flew wide.

On 39 minutes a throughball from Herrod created a chance for Hunt but he put his shot just over from just inside the area.

The final action of the half saw good link up play between Hunt and Ross Padfield which saw the latter feed Herrod who forced a corner with a low snap shot which is just tipped wide, leaving teh half-time score 0-0.

The first red card of the game came on 53 minutes when the Portishead Number 3 was sent off for a kick off the ball.

A minute later, Herrod cut in from right and pulled the ball across box but Padfield shot over bar from 10 yards.

Wells took the lead on 56 minutes when Sokol played a throughball to Herrod who cut inside the Portishead right back before firing a fierce shot across goal which the keeper did well to save, but his parry looped up in the air and Foster spectacularly produced an overhead kick on the rebound to score.

On 61 minutes a speculative shot went over the bar from Padfield from 25 yards.

After 67 minutes an Amghar surge forward won free kick and from the resulting free kick Hill's effort was brilliantly saved.

Portishead drew level on 71 minutes when a free kick was lofted into the Wells box and as the ball floated between Padfield and Wilkinson, the Portishead Number 8 poked in from close range.

Wells joined Portishead by having only 10 players on the pitch when, on 85 minutes, Foster was sent off having received a second yellow card after a late clumsy tackle.

Wells should have been out of site in the opening 30 minutes but didn't take their chances and you have to give credit to Portishead for not only equalising with 10 men but then looking the stronger team for the final 20 minutes.

Next up Wells travel to league leaders Longwell Green tomorrow night (January 14).
