Adopt a path, drive people to vital medical appointments, help in a library or help out in Somerset's outdoor activity centres – there are plenty of volunteering opportunities to put a spring in your step this spring.

The Council has over 175 volunteer drivers based all over Somerset who drive people unable to drive themselves to vital medical, social care and other appointments at different locations. Volunteers are asked to commit to 1-2 full days a week minimum, need to own a four-door car and will be reimbursed at up to 50p per mile.

One fire appliance from Street, one from Glastonbury and one from Wells were sent to a report of an attic fire in a property at the above location.
50% of the loft space was damaged by fire and 100% damaged by heat and smoke.  The fire was dealt with by crews using 6 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets, 2 safety jets, a thermal image camera, 135 ladder and a roof ladder with safety at height equipment.  An Ambulance was requested for a male person suffering smoke inhalation.

THE City of Wells and The Bishop's Palace have both won prestigious awards at the 2019 British Coach Tourism Awards.

The Visit Wells and Visit by Coach groups comprise members from Wells Cathedral, The Bishop's Palace, Wells & Mendip Museum, Wells Civic Society, the city council and the chamber of commerce, and has been facilitated by Ian Jefferies, an expert in group and coach tourism.

Diocese to buy Aster offices

THE Diocese of Bath and Wells has announced that it is going to buy the office building owned by Aster Communities at Cathedral Park to use for its offices when it moves out of The Old Deanery.

Contracts were exchanged on March 19, with completion set for later this year, and Aster moving out and the diocese relocating by early 2020 after work has been completed on an internal re-fit of the building.
