A list of candidates for the upcoming Wells City Council election was released today (January 29).
There are currently two seats in St Thomas' Ward to fill.
A total of 100 new homes will be built on the western edge of Wells after Mendip councillors voted to approve amended plans.
Gladman Developments put forward outline plans for 100 homes on the B3139 Elm Close, not far from two other proposed major developments on the edge of the city.

The second Wake Up Wells Community Day, to be held at Wells Cathedral on Saturday September 12 2020, has just received endorsement from the National Lottery Community Fund in the form of a funding grant.
Last year's Community Day, run by local Community Interest Company Project Factory, saw over 120 groups participating, with three choirs, musical theatre, dancers, a jazz group and a number of school music groups also performing in the cathedral.

Hays Travel have confirmed they will be opening in the former Thomas Cook store in Wells High Street within a few weeks.
Back in October, Hays confirmed they were buying all Thomas Cook store sites after latter went into liquidation.

Location: Polsham Lane, Polsham, Wells, Somerset.
1 Fire engine from Wells, 1 from Glastonbury and 1 from Street were sent to the above location to reports of an incident.
On arrival, crews confirmed there was smoke issuing from the ground floor utility room of a property. All persons were accounted for.
Crews entered the building with 2 breathing apparatus wearers, 1 hose reel jet and 1 attack jet.
Initially crews thought this was a possible tumble dryer fire, but on further inspection confirmed this was a fire involving a kitchen towel holder and kitchen towel.
The fire was extinguished using 2 BA, 1 hose reel jet and a CO2 extinguisher.
Duty of care was left with the occupiers.

Doubts have been cast over the future of two major events in Wells – the Moat Boat Races and the May Fair – following a decision by the city's Lions Club and Air Cadets to withdraw from staging them.
The annual May Fair and maypole dancing in the Market Place has been organised by Wells Lions Club for the past 16 years.
There's a question that families frequently ask when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia: "What do we do now?"
They may be given too little information. "But there can be too much noise," said Amy Watkins of the Wells Dementia Action Alliance.
