Mendip District Council keeping free parking at its pay and display car parks in Wells until August 6.

The move means that the Princes Road, South Street, Tucker Street and Union Street car parks remain free to use for a further seven weeks.

A planning application has been submitted to increase the number of pitches for travellers' caravans at a site in Emborough.

The application to Mendip District Council for the use of land as a nine-pitch travellers' caravan site at Old Gore Wood, Old Gore Lane, Emborough, has been made by Mr S Essex.

A former Litton parish councillor died after suffering head wounds following at accidental fall at his home.

Keith Shepherd, who was 71, was found dead at his Churchgate House home in Litton on March 3, and senior coroner for Somerset Tony Williams concluded the inquest into Mr Shepherd's death today (June 17).
