Somerset residents will have to travel to Bath or further afield if they wish to publicly express their views on the new general election boundaries.

The County Council and the four district councils have all declared a climate emergency and set ambitious goals for Somerset to become a carbon neutral county by 2030.

A housing development dubbed "one of the worst" ever planned for Somerset will still go ahead following a successful appeal.

East Brent LVA LLP applied for outline permission to build 40 new homes on Old Bristol Road in the village of East Brent near Burnham-on-Sea, not far from the Sedgemoor services on the M5.

Successful applicants who sought financial support through Mendip's Communities Fund and Climate and Ecological Emergency Fund have received good news.

Judging panels recently met and reviewed all applications, and have now allocated funding to those organisations who successfully met the criteria.

Mendip District Council, in partnership with the Centre of Sustainable Energy (CSE), have successfully bid for £49,057 to go towards supporting landlords with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating below Band E, to improve their properties and meet their legal obligations.

Using the funding, the Council and CSE will work together to support Mendip landlords improve their EPC ratings through education, training and events, with the aim of making homes more energy efficient, warmer and cheaper for residents to live in.

Wells is expected to miss some of the thunderstorms forecast for later today (January 2) for the South West.
