Strode College are offering free online or classroom based functional skills courses in Maths or English starting in February 2022.

Functional Skills are national qualifications focussing on the skills and knowledge required to apply English and Mathematics to employment and everyday life. Offered at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 (GCSE equivalent), Functional Skills at Strode provide adult learners with the opportunity to work at their own pace and ability in a relaxed and friendly, supportive environment on campus or online.

Wells WI December 2021 meeting report:

Another hybrid meeting this month, with plenty of members in the meeting room at the museum and others joining via Zoom. President Anne reminded people to book for our Christmas meal at Rugantino's, traditionally enjoyed in January when life is quieter. She thanked members for their contributions to this year's charity - three overflowing cars full of essentials and Christmas treats were delivered to Wells foodbank. December's board games evening is cancelled, to protect each other from Covid risks, but it is hoped to organise an outing to the Bath Soft Cheese company in the New Year.

With the tail end of the Junction 25 upgrade, the start of the Creech Castle improvements in Taunton, and the early stages of the long-awaited upgrade of the A303, there's been plenty of scope for muttering about delays while stuck waiting at lights or crawling through contraflows.

The PCC and the Weston & Mendip Advanced Motorists' Group

PCC Mark Shelford supported Weston & Mendip Advanced Motorists' Group in the launch of their Young Advanced Driver (YAD) initiative after the organisation received funding from Avon and Somerset Police Road Safety Fund.

The Weston & Mendip Advanced Motorists' Group was formed in 1983 to improve the standard of driving in North Somerset and the surrounding area, and is affiliated to the charity IAM RoadSmart. The group provides driving advice and guidance through its team of volunteer observers to help drivers improve their concentration, observation and planning skills, which improves their overall safety on the roads.
