Campaign for Better Transport research has revealed that bus services in the South West have declined by 29% in the last decade, with the pandemic having a devastating effect.

The transport charity is calling for a national, Government-led campaign to encourage people back on board and turn around the fortune of buses.

With the news that government is giving a £150 rebate to help with the cost of living, comes the inevitable fraud alert. Mendip residents are being warned that criminals are calling people and asking for their bank details in order to receive the rebate. This is a scam.

Your District Council would never cold call you and ask for your personal bank details over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up and report it.

Local elections will take place on May 5.

For the first year, the newly elected councillors will be responsible for existing Somerset County Council services and will oversee the creation of a new single Somerset Council.
