A yellow weather warning has been issued for Wells, with thunderstorms and heavy showers expected on Friday from 12pm to 8pm.

While some areas may escape the worst of the weather, others could be hit by frequent lightning, gusty winds, and possibly large hail. Rainfall could reach 15-25mm in an hour, with a chance of up to 40mm falling in isolated areas over three hours.

Residents should prepare for possible disruptions to travel and power. Driving conditions could be hazardous due to standing water, spray, and hail, potentially leading to delays for both cars and buses. Train services may also face interruptions. The Met Office advises people to check road conditions and public transport schedules before travelling, and to adjust plans where necessary.

In the event of power cuts, the Met Office recommends having essential items, such as torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs, ready. Those living in areas prone to flooding should review their flood plans and prepare emergency kits. If outdoors during the storm, seek safe shelter and avoid high ground or exposed areas.

The storm is expected to ease by Friday evening, but local residents should remain vigilant and keep an eye on the latest weather updates.
