Wells turns up the charm with carols, Christmas lunch and a good old sing at Wookey

By Laura Linham   11th Dec 2025

Wells is keeping it classic this Christmas.
Wells is keeping it classic this Christmas.

Wells isn't trying to reinvent the sleigh this weekend – it's sticking to the hits.

Between a formal Christmas lunch with the RAF crowd, and a festive singalong led by Helena Eden, it's all about tradition, toasts and a few novelty amusements between courses. If you're into crackers over chaos, Wells is the place to be.

Thursday 11 December

Glastonbury kicks things off in extremely polite fashion with Party Time — the Women's Friendship Group's festive bash at the Town Hall, featuring quizzes, mince pies, a raffle and carols from 2.30pm. Yes, it's as wholesome as it sounds.

Also on Thursday and Friday, there's a double dose of festive nostalgia at Yeovilton's Fleet Air Arm Museum with the return of Christmas Concerts under Concorde. HMS Heron's Volunteer Band brings the brass beneath the wings from 7.30pm. Tickets include mulled wine and a mince pie. Concorde not included.

Friday 12 December

Glastonbury dials up the occult with Glastonbury Pagan Moot at the Beckets Inn. It's a chaos magic workshop about using Tarot and runes in real life — no robes, rituals or awkward chanting required. Just bring your chaos.

Meanwhile, at the Bath & West Showground, it's fight night — or festive night — with Christmas Punch: An Evening with Tony Bellew. The boxing legend takes to the stage at 8.30pm, followed by party band The Review. Expect tales, tunes, and a whole lot of bravado.

Saturday 13 December

Clear your diary because Saturday is packed.

Start the morning fixing broken toasters and busted jumpers at the Shepton Mallet Repair Café, running 11am to 1pm at the Art Bank. Or head to No. 50 High Street for the Shepton Waste Action Group's first ever SWAG BAG giveaway. Free tea and soup if you behave.

Looking for sparkle? Leigh-on-Mendip's Christmas Tree Festival opens in St Giles Church from midday, complete with mulled wine and homemade cake. Entry's free, trees are twinkly.

Want something more glamorous? Grab your glitter and head to the Bath & West for A Great British Christmas — a full-on dinner and show starting at 6.30pm. It's £75, fizz on arrival, and you'll be humming Mariah by dessert.

If you're feeling brave (and festive), join the wildest tour in Frome with Mrs C's Cracking Christmas Silent Disco — a walking disco led by a rebellious Mrs Claus. You'll sing, dance and get told off for bad footwork.

More practical types might opt for The Christmas Dinner That Goes Wrong in Baltonsborough — a family-friendly first aid course that promises laughs and life-saving skills in equal measure.

Sunday 14 December

Collectors, this one's for you: the Toy & Train Collectors Fair takes over the Bath & West from 8.30am. Over 300 stalls of nostalgia — from Hornby to Action Man. Dogs allowed. Wallets warned.

Over in Wookey Hole, Helena Eden is back with Sing For Joy, a festive singing session from 2.30pm at the church. All songs taught by ear. No music reading, just merry humming.

Monday 15 December

Ease into the week with candlelight and jazz as A Touch of Sax and Sparkle takes over Alhampton's Tin Tabernacle. Two performances — 5.30pm and 6.30pm — bring together sax, strings and piano in a cosy winter set that slips between classical and swing. £23 a ticket. Under 12s free.

Running something brilliant, bonkers or beautifully local? You can nub your event for free in Shepton Mallet, Wells or Glastonbury and Street. It only takes two minutes — we'll do the rest.
