Wells has made a strong showing in the 2024/25 Bristol, Bath, and Somerset Tourism Awards, with several local businesses shortlisted across multiple categories.

The city's attractions and hospitality venues have been recognised for their excellence, highlighting Wells as a standout destination in Somerset.

Among the finalists is the Adventure Caving Experience - Wild Wookey, nominated for Active & Learning Experience of the Year. This unique attraction offers visitors an exhilarating journey through the caves beneath the Mendip Hills, combining adventure with education.

In the accommodation sector, The Cross at Croscombe is up for B&B and Guesthouse of the Year. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail, the guesthouse has received praise from guests for its high standards and exceptional service.

The Litton, located near Wells, has secured nominations in two categories. It is a finalist for both B&B and Guesthouse of the Year and Pub of the Year. The Litton has been commended for its charming accommodation and as a beloved local pub offering quality food and a friendly environment.

Food enthusiasts will be pleased to see The Loft Café shortlisted for Café/Tearoom of the Year. Situated in the heart of Wells, the café is celebrated for its delicious menu and cosy setting, making it a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

The iconic Wells Cathedral has also been recognised, featuring as a finalist in two categories. It is nominated for Dog Friendly Business of the Year, acknowledging its efforts to welcome all visitors, including those with canine companions. Additionally, the cathedral's hosting of Peter Walker's Peace Doves installation has earned it a spot in the Tourism Event/Festival of the Year category. The art installation drew significant attention earlier this year, with thousands visiting to experience the moving display.

The awards, which encompass entries from Somerset, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire, aim to celebrate excellence within the tourism sector. This year, 65 finalists have been announced across 24 categories. Winners will be revealed at a ceremony at Batch Country House on 5 December 2024, where businesses will find out if they have achieved Gold, Silver, or Bronze status.

Nell Barrington, Awards Director, commented on the calibre of this year's entries: "We were delighted with the number and quality of entrants this year, including many small businesses who had entered for the first time. We look forward to celebrating all their achievements on awards night."

The recognition of Wells businesses in these awards underscores the city's appeal as a tourist destination, offering a rich variety of experiences from historical sites to hospitality and adventure activities.
