Wells is to get a new programme of Sunday event markets in 2026, running alongside the city's existing Saturday markets.

Wells City Council announced the programme on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, saying the events will bring themed markets, new traders and a fresh experience to the city centre throughout the year. The council says the markets will offer residents and visitors a wider range of stalls, activities, attractions and displays while supporting local businesses and independent traders.

The Sunday market dates listed for 2026 are 14 June, 12 July, 9 August, 13 September and 8 November. A special two-day Christmas Market will also take place on 12 and 13 December.

The Christmas event will extend across the town centre and include additional stalls, festive displays and family-friendly activities. Wells City Council says it will be one of the largest seasonal events hosted in Wells.

The Sunday markets will be operated as a pilot programme during 2026, with the hope that successful events could lead to more Sunday and special event markets in future years.

Stallholder fees will remain in line with previous markets, although applications for the Sunday events will follow a separate process. Further details are due to be released shortly.
