Wells Rotary club is planning two events to raise funds for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.

The first is a play and the second is a new event for Wells – the Sedan Chair Steeplechase.

The play will take place at St Cuthbert's Church, Wells on Saturday 7 September at 7pm. Alison Neil will perform the story of Mary Anning, known as the 'Fossil Lady of Lyme'. Mary discovered the first complete fossil of a prehistoric reptile in the UK at Lyme Bay when she was 12 and played a key part in a pioneering journey.

On 29 September, the Rotary Club will stage the Wells Sedan Chair Steeplechase. Local organisations and clubs are invited to submit teams of five (four porters and one passenger) who, in fancy dress, will gallop around a set course of obstacles carrying a sedan chair.

As is that's not enough of a challenge the chair will need to be taken apart, passed through a gap, reassembled and then conveyed onward with a change of passenger. There will be other obstacles to navigate and each circuit will be timed.

For anyone interested in taking part, details about the event, including rules and entry forms, can be obtained by emailing [email protected].

Wells Rotary club is looking for sponsors for both events. Sponsors will receive full recognition on all promotional material before and at the events and complementary tickets.

However, the main benefit of sponsoring these events is knowing that you will have helped make a real difference to the lives of others in our community, supporting Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance in continuing its life saving service.

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance charity is 95 per cent funded by charitable giving. The Air Ambulance relies on charitable donations to keep flying.
