Wells roads to close for running festival
By Laura Linham 28th Apr 2026
Temporary road closures will be in place across Wells for the Wells Festival of Running.
Somerset Council is making a temporary traffic restrictions order for the event on Sunday, 24 May 2026, and again on Sunday, 29 May 2027.
The order is being made in the interest of public safety.
Market Place will be closed to vehicles from 7am to 1pm.
Further closures will run from 9am to 1pm on St John Street, Sadler Street, High Street, Broad Street, Queen Street, Priory Road, Southover, Silver Street, Upper Wellesley Road, Bishops Park Way to Constitution Hill, Constitution Hill and Tor Street.
Some footpaths, bridleways and a section of the A371 East Somerset Way shared cycle path will also close temporarily between 9am and 1pm.
The restrictions will only apply when traffic signs are in place and will remain in force only for as long as necessary.
Exemptions will apply for emergency vehicles and vehicles involved in managing the event.
A copy of the draft order and plans can be viewed on Somerset Council's TRO pages, with alternative route details available on one.network.
General enquiries can be made to Wells City Harriers on 07913 610233.
