In light of a recent spike in non-dwelling burglaries targeting sheds, garages, and outbuildings in Wells, local police are urging residents to remain vigilant.

Valuable items, ranging from tools to bikes and vehicles, have been reported stolen from these often less-secured structures.

A spokesperson from the neighbourhood team said: "We're seeing an uptick in burglaries targeting external structures like sheds and garages. We ask the community to be extra cautious and report any suspicious activities. It's crucial to secure your property to deter these crimes."

Residents are encouraged to implement several crime prevention measures to enhance security and deter potential burglaries.

Effective strategies include installing security lighting, which serves as a deterrent by illuminating dark areas around outbuildings. Additionally, the use of CCTV cameras can provide valuable surveillance, acting as both a deterrent and a means of identifying culprits.

Alarms are also highly recommended as they can alert property owners and neighbours to any unauthorized access.

Residents are advised to ensure that all outbuildings are properly locked and secured, and to consider marking valuable items with a UV pen or other identification methods to aid in their recovery in case of theft.
