Residents of Wells have a unique opportunity this May to contribute to reducing electronic waste and aiding those without digital access.

The Wells Repair Cafe, in collaboration with the Fixy project, is hosting a 'tech amnesty' event where locals can donate their unused tech items.

The event will take place at the Wells Little Theatre from 11 am to 2 pm on Wednesday, May 29. Here, the Fixy van will be ready to collect a variety of electronic items such as old phones, laptops, tablets, PCs, and associated cables and chargers. All donated devices will undergo a thorough data wiping, resetting, and refurbishing process before being redistributed to individuals facing digital exclusion.

Details on what items are accepted and how to prepare them for donation can be found on the Somerset County Council website at www.somerset.gov.uk/bins-recycling-and-waste/fixy/.

Additionally, the Wells Repair Cafe's volunteer fixers will be present at the event, offering their services to repair any broken items. Those interested in getting their items fixed or who have queries about the event can reach out to Amanda at [email protected].

For residents or businesses with a large volume of electronics to donate, please contact Simon Barfoot at [email protected] to arrange a drop-off.
