Wells is ready to play host to an array of exciting events this coming weekend, transforming it into a cultural and community hub.

First on the agenda is the sponsor of this newsletter, Somerstock Music Festival, part of the larger Somerton Music and Arts Festival. The Blockheads are headlining this year, and are just one of the many exceptional artists set to grace the stage over the weekend.

A colourful array of street food vendors, and stalls are gearing up to serve festival-goers with mouth-watering delicacies and unique offerings. The combination of good food, shopping, and music is sure to make the festival a sensory delight.

In addition, the festival atmosphere will be kept lively and enjoyable for all ages with children's entertainers prepping their best tricks and performances. It's not just the music that'll have you dancing, though. DJs are already heating up the decks for the Silent Disco - a modern festival staple offering a unique twist on dancing to the beat.

The curtain rises on the evening of the 7th July with four incredible bands ready to set the stage on fire. Area 52, a crowd favourite, is slated to headline the night, guaranteeing an electrifying start to Somerstock.

The music continues into Saturday, with the festival kicking off at 1 pm sharp. The Jamestown Brothers will be the first to take the stage, so make sure to arrive early so as not to miss a single beat!

Tickets are going fast, so to ensure your place at this year's festival, head over to www.somerstock.co.uk and book your tickets as soon as possible. Remember, children under 12 go free, but registration for a free ticket is required.

Scheduled to kick off on the evening of Friday, July 7 at 6:00 PM and running until 10:00 PM, this year's edition has added an acoustic night to set the mood. Following this, Saturday, July 8 promises a full day of live music, delicious street food, a variety of beverages, and a dedicated Kids' Zone for the enjoyment of younger attendees. The festival will take place at the Somerton Sports Field. Tickets can be purchased online at www.somertonartsfestival.co.uk or at The Stationery House in Somerton.

Simultaneously, the highly anticipated Wells Theatre Festival is set to commence from Thursday, July 6 and continue until Sunday, July 9. Patrons, including Dame Judi Dench and former Director of the National Theatre, Sir Richard Eyre, back this eclectic event that offers a melange of classics, comedy, drama, children's theatre, opera, and dance. Notable acts to watch out for this weekend include a community production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" and Jonathan Guy Lewis' one-man show, "I Found My Horn". Festival attendees can also look forward to an engaging rendition of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" by Opera in a Box. Tickets are available on the festival's website and at https://bishopspalace.org.uk/event/wells-theatre-festival/.

On Saturday, July 8, Crandon Springs Care Home will open its doors to the public for an Open Day. Attendees will have the chance to tour the facility, learn about the care services provided, enjoy homemade snacks, and have their queries answered by the team on site.

Running concurrently from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9, the Priddy Folk Festival is an event not to be missed. Held in the idyllic village of Priddy atop the splendid Mendip Hills, this festival is known as England's friendliest folk event. More information is available on their website and social media platforms.

Finally, on Sunday, July 9, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, St Michael's Church in Dinder invites locals and visitors alike for an informal coffee and chat session.

And as always, there's lots going on at Wells Film Centre.

This weekend, whether you're a music buff, a theatre enthusiast, a fan of folk traditions, or simply looking for a pleasant afternoon with community members, the city of Wells promises to cater to all interests. Have an event you want the community to know about? Remember, you can add your own event for free using the Nub It button!
