In an ongoing effort to address the issue of speeding within Wells City and its surrounding rural areas, the Wells Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has reaffirmed its commitment to making the roads safer for everyone.

Local officers have ramped up their operations, conducting regular high-visibility speeding checks to deter reckless driving and educate motorists on the dangers of speeding.

The initiative, which has become a priority for the Wells beat team, involves not only the presence of officers on the streets but also small slips posted through their letterboxes from the local police to reassure people that they are out and about, tackling speeding in their area.

Furthermore, local speed watch groups, supported by Avon and Somerset Police, have received the green light to resume their activities. These community-led groups play a crucial role in monitoring speeding in their neighbourhoods, with the police following up with offenders for educational talks to change driving behaviours.

A police spokesperson said: "Our goal is not just to enforce but to educate and work together with the community to address speeding concerns.

"These high-visibility checks and the invaluable work of our local speed watch groups are central to our strategy of making our roads safer for everyone."

The police encourage anyone with speeding concerns to make contact, using 999 for emergencies and 101 for non-urgent matters.

Additionally, residents interested in actively participating in road safety efforts are invited to learn more about joining Speed watch groups in their area by reaching out to the Wells neighbourhood policing team.
