Wells Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is preparing to extend its support to the community with a new partnership with the Wells Community Network (WCN).

The collaboration comes at a key moment, as the current NHW area coordinator for Wells is retiring. WCN, already active in the local community through its volunteer services like prescription collections, shopping, and offering transport, was approached to see if they would take on more responsibilities in crime prevention.

Recognising a strong alignment between their services and the aims of Neighbourhood Watch, WCN has agreed to help coordinate the group's activities, focusing on making Wells and its surrounding areas safer for residents. This partnership will provide an opportunity for WCN to further integrate their support within the community, working closely with the police and local volunteers.

WCN is now inviting all Neighbourhood Watch street coordinators, as well as residents from Wells and nearby villages who want to get involved, to join them at a community event at Wells Town Hall on Wednesday, October 23, at 7 pm. This gathering will provide a chance for people to meet, exchange ideas, and find out more about the new collaboration over a glass of wine.

For those who are unable to attend but are still interested in participating, WCN is welcoming enquiries via email at [email protected]. The goal is to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible and that the Neighbourhood Watch initiative continues to grow with strong community backing.

The organisers believe this new approach will enhance the safety of Wells and its neighbouring villages by strengthening community ties and encouraging more residents to get involved in looking out for one another. This partnership marks a new chapter for Wells Neighbourhood Watch, aiming to make the area more secure and build a sense of community that will deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
